But they’re not the whole story.

The Back of the Postcard is for people who want to see beautiful places and learn the stories behind them.

A tiny workshop hidden inside a greenhouse that helped change transportation forever. A castle laboratory where a young scientist first isolated the substance we now know as DNA.

Or something much smaller. A strange local tradition. A name carved into a wall. A statue that seems out of place. And one simple question.

What is that doing there?

Travel curious. Come home with the story.

The Back of the Postcard isn’t a history site. But it isn’t a checklist of attractions either.

You’ll find practical information about what deserves space in your itinerary.

Guides, itineraries, local experiences, and day trips.

And you’ll find the stories behind them.

The people who lived there. The strange things that happened. The inventions created behind unremarkable doors. The artisans carrying on centuries-old crafts. The traditions that survived long after anyone remembered exactly why they began.

Sometimes those stories live inside a practical guide. Sometimes they become a Back of the Postcard story of their own.

Why “The Back of the Postcard”?

A postcard shows you the part of a destination everyone recognizes. Turn it over. That’s where the story goes.

How I explore the places you see here

Wherever possible, the places on The Back of the Postcard are places I’ve explored myself.

I walk the routes and test the itineraries.

I photograph the places I write about and often return to discover more.

And when I’m there, I look for things that don’t appear on the standard list of attractions.

The overlooked building. The odd detail on a monument. The story hinted at on a museum label. The local tradition everyone seems to know but nobody explains. The thing that makes me wonder:

What is that doing there?

That curiosity follows me home. I dig deeper to find the story behind what I noticed.

Those stories can turn an ordinary stop into one of the most memorable parts of a trip.

For now, I’m exploring southern Germany. Places like Stuttgart, the Black Forest, and the Swabian Alb.

Over time, The Back of the Postcard will travel farther.
